Timeline of Condrydin
Pre-History and the Ancient Foundations (Before 2000 BCE)
The Original Landmass: Condrydin was once part of a single, unified landmass before Hyebrenia found it’s current shape. A land rich in fertile soil and teeming with wildlife. The first inhabitants were nomadic humans, dwarves, and a scattering of other races, including elves.
The First Settlements: Around 2000 BCE, the first permanent settlements began to form. Humans and dwarves established coastal towns along the bay. These early cultures were known for their sturdy architecture and harmonious use of natural resources.

The Fracturing of the Island (2000 BCE – 500 BCE)
A massive series of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions ravaged the island. A violent shift in tectonic plates caused the rift valleys and fjords to carve into the land. The land fractured into the distinct arms and peninsulas seen today.
This catastrophic event led to the isolation of communities, with trade and communication becoming difficult. The island’s population was thrown into chaos as different factions tried to rebuild.
Notable Figure:

The Rise of the Wyrmsoul Kings (circa 1500 BCE – 1200 BCE):
With the land torn asunder, a series of charismatic kings, known as the Wyrmsoul Kings, took control over various regions. These leaders claimed descent from dragons and saw themselves as the rightful rulers of the fractured territories.
The Wyrmsoul Kingdoms flourished along the coastlines, building monumental castles and fortresses. However, their internal squabbles and the struggle for power soon led to their downfall.
Notable Figures:
- King Varnak Wyrmsoul (Male Human, 6’0″, 210 lbs, black hair, piercing amber eyes, tanned skin, age 60)
- A fierce leader known for uniting several factions along the northern coast during this period. He ruled over the area that would become Grolzeim. Varnak’s fall came at the hands of his own brother, who claimed the title of Wyrmsoul King after a bloody coup.

The Age of Recovery and Settlement (500 BCE – 0 CE)
The cities of Grolzeim and Mossymont came to be during this age. Grolzeim became the seat of power, a thriving port city that benefited from the island’s fractured geography. The capital city grew from a fortress into a bustling metropolis, its natural harbor providing a strategic advantage for trade.
Mossymont, on the other hand, was founded as a cultural and economic hub on the southern shore. It became known for its unique blend of dwarven craftsmanship and elven artistry.
Notable Figures:
- Elaris Ashlan (Female Gnome, 3’8″, 40 lbs, short red hair, green eyes, pale skin, age 90)

The Great Famine and the Decline of the Wyrmsoul Legacy (circa 200 BCE):
A severe famine struck the island during this period, caused by poor crop yields and failing trade routes due to the island’s fractured geography. The once-proud Wyrmsoul families struggled to maintain control as food scarcity led to uprisings and civil strife.
By the end of this period, the power of the Wyrmsoul Kings had diminished, and the island became divided into several autonomous city-states.
Notable Figure:

- Roderic’s daughter, who became a powerful advocate for aid during the famine. Her family provided essential relief to various towns, earning them loyalty in the years to come.
The Formation of Independent Towns (0 CE – 650 CE)
By this point, many of Condrydin’s smaller towns had risen to prominence, with Hazelstrum becoming a center for mining and metallurgy, and Corsacall developing as a key military stronghold.
These towns, though smaller, became fiercely independent, building their own economies and cultures separate from the crumbling cities to the north and south.
Notable Figure:
- Bryndal Firestone (Male Dwarf, 4’9″, 150 lbs, black hair with streaks of grey, grey eyes, fair skin, age 125)
- A renowned blacksmith from Hazelstrum, Bryndal produced some of the finest dwarven armor and weapons. He is considered a living legend in the town.
Age of Expansion and Political Unrest (650 CE – 1000 CE)
The Condrydin Confederation, after years of political wrangling, established a central governing body known as the Council of the Fractured Isles. This council was made up of elected representatives from each city-state, with Grolzeim serving as the central location.
The Confederation saw a period of relative peace and economic growth as the once-fractured island began to build bridges between its disparate regions. Trade routes expanded, especially with the dwarven mines of Hazelstrum and the port city of Corsacall.
However, the diverse cultures and priorities of the various cities soon caused tensions. Grolzeim, as the capital, sought more centralized control, while other cities such as Mossymont and Corsacall desired greater autonomy.
Notable Figures:
- Gwendolyn Farwind (Female Human, 5’4″, 140 lbs, long brown hair, amber eyes, fair skin, age 45)
- A diplomat from Grolzeim who rose to prominence as a Council representative. Known for her intelligence and tenacity, Gwendolyn helped broker the original agreements of the Confederation, but as tensions grew, she became a staunch advocate for a stronger central government.
- Benedict Stonegrip (Male Dwarf, 5’0″, 180 lbs, graying black hair, beard braided with gold rings, brown eyes, age 175)
- A long-time representative from Hazelstrum, Benedict was a powerful voice for the dwarven population within the Confederation. He often fought for more resources for the mining towns and resisted what he saw as Grolzeim’s efforts to centralize power at the expense of the rural regions.
The Rise of the Merchant Lords and Economic Power Struggles (circa 800 CE)
During this period, the cities began to be dominated by wealthy merchant families. These “Merchant Lords” controlled much of the trade on the island, particularly between Grolzeim, Mossymont, and Corsacall.
The Merchant Lords wielded significant power, often influencing the decisions of the Confederation. It was rumored that these families controlled criminal enterprises in the shadow of their legitimate businesses, but their influence was undeniable.
Notable Figures:
- Allegra Thorne (Female Human, 5’6″, 135 lbs, short blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, olive skin, age 60)
- The matriarch of the Thorne family, a merchant dynasty based in Mossymont. Allegra built the family fortune through trade in precious metals and rare artifacts from the surrounding regions. She was one of the most influential figures in the Confederation’s trade agreements.
- Balthazar Kruven (Male Human, 6’1″, 200 lbs, dark brown hair, light grey eyes, pale skin, age 50)
- Head of the Kruven family, which controlled much of the shipping lanes between Condrydin and neighboring islands. Balthazar’s family was rumored to have deep ties to pirates and mercenary groups, but his legitimate enterprises were incredibly prosperous.
The First Break in the Confederation (850 CE – 900 CE)
The tensions between Grolzeim and the southern cities, particularly Corsacall, finally erupted into rebellion. Corsacall declared its independence, leading to a short but bloody civil conflict known as The Corsacall Rebellion.
Grolzeim’s growing control over trade routes and the imposition of heavy taxes on smaller cities sparked a rebellion. Corsacall, with its strategic position as a naval hub, had long sought autonomy, and this was the tipping point.
Notable Figures:
- Adrianna Blackwater (Female Human, 5’8″, 160 lbs, black hair with streaks of grey, dark brown eyes, olive skin, age 45)
- A former merchant turned military leader who led the rebellion in Corsacall. Adrianna was charismatic and fiercely protective of the people of the eastern coast, and her success in the rebellion cemented her status as the first ruler of the Eastern States.

- A former knight of the Confederation who sided with Corsacall during the rebellion. His military expertise and tactical acumen were critical to the success of the rebel forces.
The Partition of the Island
By the end of the rebellion, the island had effectively been split into two regions: the Condrydin Confederation (still dominated by Grolzeim) and the newly formed Eastern States, consisting of Corsacall and surrounding regions. This division lasted for several centuries, though occasional skirmishes broke out along the borders.
Notable Figure:
- Helena Darksun (Female Aasimar, 5’9″, 150 lbs, silvery-white hair, radiant blue eyes, golden skin, age 160)
- Helena was a close advisor to the Council before the rebellion but was forced to retreat to the Eastern States after the conflict. Her wisdom and divine insight made her a respected figure on both sides of the divide.
The Rise of the Condrydin Highlands (900 CE – 1000 CE)
With the Eastern States now independent, Hazelstrum, which had once been a quiet mining town, became the new economic powerhouse of Condrydin. The mountain dwarves took advantage of the fractured political situation to expand their influence, and Hazelstrum became a center of metallurgy and engineering.
The Condrydin Highlands—the mountain range stretching across the island’s western coast—saw the establishment of several smaller towns and mining colonies, which drew settlers from across the island.
Notable Figure:
- Averin Stonefist (Male Dwarf, 5’5″, 200 lbs, bald with a red beard, brown eyes, rugged skin, age 135)
- A legendary dwarven engineer and the founder of several key mining operations in Hazelstrum. Averin was known for his inventive designs, creating advanced mining tools and machinery that helped revolutionize the dwarven economy.
The Age of Reconstruction and Expansion (1000 CE – 1500 CE)
As the Confederation slowly rebuilt itself, the city of Mossymont began to grow in military influence. The city had always been a cultural center, but its strategic location made it essential to the defense of the island. Mossymont formed strong alliances with the independent towns of the Highlands and Corsacall.
Notable Figure:
- General Lucian Dreadborne (Male Human, 6’2″, 240 lbs, black hair, dark brown eyes, pale skin, age 70)
- A retired general who played a key role in fortifying Mossymont’s defenses. Lucian became a military adviser and later a member of Mossymont’s ruling council. His legacy lives on in the fortress walls of the city.
The Golden Age of Trade and the Aasimar Influence (1200 CE – 1500 CE)
The 13th to 15th centuries saw a golden age for trade, particularly between the cities of Grolzeim and Mossymont. During this period, the Aasimar—with their divine connections—emerged as powerful figures of diplomacy and commerce, fostering peaceful relations across the fractured land.
Notable Figure:
- Arannis Solace (Male Aasimar, 6’0″, 190 lbs, platinum blonde hair, radiant white eyes, light skin, age 210)
- A high-ranking official in the Aasimar diplomatic service. Arannis was known for his eloquent speeches and mediation skills, helping bring peace between long-standing rivals within the Confederation.
The Island as It Is Today
Condrydin is a land caught between shadows and light. Ancient forces stir beneath the surface and the air is thick with rumors and unease. Over the past few decades, the island’s once peaceful cities and towns have been rocked by whispers of strange happenings, dark creatures, and growing cults. From the caves near Hazelstrum to the dark waters of Lake Veyrune, the island seems on the cusp of transformation, or perhaps destruction.
The Dark Dwarves and Dark Elves of Hazelstrum
In the mountains surrounding the city of Hazelstrum, the dwarves are facing an unsettling threat. For years, miners have been reporting odd noises emanating from the deep caves below the mountain. At first, they assumed it was the normal creaking and groaning of the earth, a consequence of tunneling into such ancient rock. But as time went on, the sounds grew more distinct and unnerving—rumbles like thunder and scraping metal. Some miners swore they had seen figures in the dark, their eyes glowing a malevolent red, their faces as dark as coal.
Duergar
The dwarves called these creatures Dark Dwarves—beings that seem to resemble dwarves, yet with skin as black as the midnight sky and eyes that burn with an unnatural glow. No one knows where they came from, but it is whispered that they have been living in the forgotten depths for centuries, untouched by the world above.
Drow
Alongside them, sightings of Dark Elves—tall, thin elves with obsidian skin and hair as white as snow—have been reported near the mountain passes. Some say these Dark Elves are simply wandering traders or mystics, but others believe they are part of a larger, more sinister plot.
Rumors have swirled that these creatures are not just mindless beasts or wanderers but organized in some way, possibly even allied with each other. There is talk of them forging an alliance with the mysterious Wyrmkin, ancient dragon-blooded creatures who once ruled over Condrydin. Some believe the Dark Dwarves and Dark Elves are preparing for something far darker than anyone could imagine.
Among those investigating the rumors is Torund Ironhearth, the head of the Hazelstrum Mining Guild. Torund, a veteran of the mountain’s mines, has taken it upon himself to uncover the truth behind the reports. Though many dismiss his warnings as the result of old age or stress from the job, Torund is convinced that something darker stirs beneath Hazelstrum, something that threatens not just the dwarves but the entire island.
Another key figure is Selene Valtorin, an elven scholar from the Elven Enclave who has made her way to Hazelstrum to investigate the presence of Dark Elves in the region. She believes that the recent disturbances are tied to something much older and far more dangerous than any of them realize. Her deep knowledge of ancient elven lore and magic may be the only key to understanding what’s truly happening in the mountains.
The Sea Serpent of Lake Veyrune
At the southern end of the island lies Lake Veyrune, a vast, dark body of water surrounded by cliffs and forests. For years, the lake had been a source of life for the communities of Mossymont, Hazelstrum, and other towns around its shores. Fishermen brought in bountiful catches, and the lake’s waters were said to be rich with ancient magic. But in recent times, something has changed.
A monstrous sea serpent, rumored to be of impossible size, has made its home in the depths of Lake Veyrune. Fishermen have reported seeing the serpent’s massive, sinuous body rise from the water in the dead of night. Its eyes are said to glow a golden hue, and its roar reverberates through the air like thunder. For years, the serpent had remained a myth, a tale whispered by the superstitious. But now, more and more people are claiming to have seen it with their own eyes.
The serpent’s behavior is erratic—sometimes docile, other times terrifyingly violent. The people of Mossymont and Hazelstrum are divided on what to make of it. Some say it’s merely a disturbed creature, its home disrupted by the growth of human settlements. Others believe it is an ancient guardian, a being tied to the island’s lost history—possibly a relic from the time of the Wyrmkin or even older. But there are darker rumors still. Some whisper that the serpent’s presence signals the return of something far worse, that its waking is tied to the island’s fractured past.
Enter Briar Delphine
At the center of the debate is Briar Delphine, a seasoned fisherwoman from Mossymont who is one of the few to have encountered the serpent firsthand. Briar has become something of a local legend, often seen in the town’s taverns recounting her tales of the creature.
Despite her warnings, many mock her, dismissing her as an old woman with too many stories to tell. But there are a few who listen—people like Isolde Veldrin, a scholar and Aasimar who has dedicated herself to studying the serpent. Isolde believes that the creature may be more than a mere beast; it could be a link to the ancient powers of the Wyrmkin, or even a harbinger of the return of the Wyrmsoul Kings.
The Cult of the Wyrmsoul Kings
In the shadow of these strange events, something more insidious has begun to spread across Condrydin. A cult has emerged, preaching that the Aasimar, the celestial-blooded beings who have become an increasingly visible presence on the island, are the reincarnations of the Wyrmsoul Kings—ancient rulers of dragon-blooded heritage who once held dominion over the island. According to the cult, the Aasimar are destined to return Condrydin to its former glory and bring peace to its fractured people.
The cult’s teachings have taken hold most strongly in Grolzeim and Mossymont, where many feel disconnected from the political struggles and economic hardships that plague the island. The promise of salvation, of divine intervention in their troubled lives, has been a powerful draw. The cult is organized and growing in influence, spreading its message among the common folk and even some of the island’s elite.
Among the most prominent figures of the cult is Aeron Sunfire, an Aasimar who has become the spiritual leader of the movement. Aeron’s charisma and eloquence have made him a popular figure, and his impassioned speeches have stirred a fervor among his followers. Some believe that Aeron is the living incarnation of one of the Wyrmsoul Kings, returned to lead them to glory. Others, like Neryn Coyle, an Aasimar advisor to Aeron, believe that the Wyrmsoul Kings have already returned through these celestial beings, but their true power has yet to be awakened.
The Naysayers
Not everyone is taken in by the cult’s promises of salvation, however. In fact, there is a growing resistance among the scholars, politicians, and even religious leaders of Condrydin who seek to expose the cult for what they believe it is—a dangerous and misguided movement preying on the weak and desperate. Among these detractors are Galeb Thornblade, a half-orc priest of the Fellowship of the Wyrm’s Claw, and Meredith Belcombe, a scholar from Grolzeim, who have both publicly condemned the cult. They argue that the idea of the Wyrmsoul Kings returning is nothing more than a myth, and the cult’s claim is a blatant exploitation of the island’s uncertainty and fear.
At the heart of the conflict is a debate over what Condrydin’s future holds. Will the cult succeed in convincing the people that the Aasimar are their salvation, or will the island’s fractured history and dark rumors lead to even greater unrest? The answers to these questions may shape Condrydin’s fate for centuries to come.
